Mudslide Traps Five Miners in South Africa’s Northern Cape
The incident occurred at the Ekapa Mine, and a search and rescue operation is currently underway, according to reports quoting the mine’s management.
"Communication with the miners has been cut off, and they remain unreachable for now," the report said. "Families of the missing miners have been informed."
Meanwhile, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) is seeking access to the site. NUMSA Kimberley local secretary Tshimologo Mahase told the media, "We're waiting for management to confirm for us... what happened to those workers who are trapped underground."
